LOD is a Belgian production house for opera, musical and other musical theatre. For twenty years already, it has guaranteed the creation of pioneering artistic work. LOD works with a range of artists (composers Kris Defoort, Dick van der Harst, Jan Kuijken, Dominique Pauwels, Daan Janssens and Thomas Smetryns; director Inne Goris; actor/director An De Donder, actor/author/director Josse De Pauw and philosopher/author Pieter De Buysser). Together they work on different kinds of productions in which a wide array of artistic genres meet.
The resident artists of LOD are known for their contemporary approach of musical theatre. Their work is hybrid and hard to label, but it is always the result of profound artistic investigation and great artistic and creative joy. With projects such as The Woman Who Walked into Doors, Yerma vraagt een toefeling, Diep in het bos (Deep in the Woods), Het huis der verborgen muziekjes I & II (The House of Hidden Little Music I & II), Onegin, Boreas, Liefde / zijn handen (Liefde / His Hands), Die siel van die mier (The Soul of the Ant), Twee oude vrouwtjes (Two Old Ladies), Judaspassie (The Passion of Judas), Nachtevening (Equinox) and House of the Sleeping Beauties LOD has met with great enthusiasm in Belgium and abroad.
LOD pays special attention to collaborations with Wallonian artists, for instance in De Duivel Beduveld (The Devil Bedeviled) (with Patrick Corillon) or The Attendants’ Gallery (collaboration with – among others – Dominique Goblet et Thierry Van Hasselt).
LOD also has many partners home and abroad, including deSingel (Antwerp, BE), La Monnaie/De Munt (Brussels, BE), Concertgebouw (Bruges, BE), Vlaamse Opera (Ghent, BE), Rotterdamse Schouwburg (Rotterdam, NL), Le Maillon (Strasbourg, FR), L’opéra de Dijon (FR), le Grand Théâtre de Luxembourg (LU), L’Hippodrome (Douai, FR) and many others.
