CATTIVO

Installation for music stands and other materials
Marlene Monteiro Freitas

Music stands are pedestal objects, made of parts with different sizes and shapes, attached one and another through articulations. This foldable object has the sole purpose of supporting music scores while musicians play. Normally one does not dissociate it from its function: when we see it, either we see music, hear music or see the figure of a musician.

Nevertheless, when manipulated purposefully, they can be highly anthropomorphic. They indeed are a bit like puppets, which, in turn, are made at the image of either man (or animal).

In CATTIVO, music stands will be pushed to their full expressiveness, embodying emotional states, taking decisions, manipulating other objects, enduring a performance, etc., composing as a team, a symphonic community, with its different instruments, rhythms, melodic lines…, an Arena, a Garden, a Puppet House, etc., the installation, will explore the borders between the animal, the vegetable and the fantasy worlds.
